But If My Life Is For Rent And I Don’t Learn To Buy, Well I Deserve Nothing More Than I Get Because Nothing I Have Is Truly Mine
Devil’s had an interesting Friday…
This afternoon I had my job interview with the section that was offering me higher pay. Through my highly integrated network of contacts I found out that there were only two people being interviewed for the position…with me being one of them. I think I went ok…I’ll find out on Monday if I got the job or not.
Meanwhile, when I got back from the interview, one of the bosses from the other side of the floor came and spoke to me about a contact that he had with an external research centre.
As it turns out, he was approached for a job with this research centre but turned them down because of his lack of technical skills. He had given them my name instead…and as it so happened…I had my full CV with me, which he forwarded to the other research centre. I’ll find out on Monday how that all turns out.
This whole experience with The Centre has taught me a lot about myself and how I work. It seems…that not unlike my hero Spiderman…if I’m about to fall, my instincts kick in and I find webbing or a wall to cling to…and I’ve found a few. Right now…I have webbing going everywhere and I don’t think I’m really going to fall.
After work…as per usual, I went to rock climbing but this time I was joined by (S) [Henceforth referred to as: The Matrix]. The Matrix attempted to keep up with me in all my climbs and despite his obvious physical exhaustion, he valiantly attempted to continue climbing with me. After climbing for a few hours we both went to dinner.
After dinner, I went with The Matrix to his place. When we arrived, he showed me his Robosapian robot. This thing is totally awesome! It dances and picks up stuff and…*has a brain snap* is just totally awesome! After playing with the robot for a while we watched Little Britain (Season 2), talked and then talked some more.
For some reason…and I still don’t know why…I shared some of the darkest secrets of my past with him. Maybe it was his trusting demeanour or his ability to consistently conceal any agendas he may have had with getting me to reveal such details of my past…but he succeeded. I wasn’t able to detect any malicious intent from him and that itself was a bit unnerving.
Regardless…we ended up talking well into the night and into the early hours of the morning and I allowed him glimpses of a devil without his wings and pitchfork. I allowed him glimpses of the tormented soul lurking just beneath the surface. For some reason…it didn’t feel necessary for me to be guarded and I still don’t know why…other than the fact that it just felt right.
I wasn’t able to detect any ill intent from The Matrix.
His intentions were pure and true and I’m of the strong belief that he has proven himself worthy of my full loyalty and everything that that encompasses.
And I understand now…as The Matrix had shown me through the course of the night…that perhaps friendship…is not necessarily such a bad thing.
